Domed Labels FAQ

What are domed labels?

Domed Labels are screen printed, or digitally printed, pressure-sensitive labels which have a liquid polyurethane resin applied to their surfaces. The liquid coating can be applied in many different ways, ranging from manual application via syringe to optically-guided, automated dispensing equipment. Once applied, the polyurethane liquid flows to the edge of the label and stops (due to the surface tension of the liquid), eventually hardening into an attractive clear dome.

Where are domed labels used?

Because of the aesthetic appeal of domed labels, many manufacturers select them for product branding and identification.  Their attractive 3D appearance “pop out” at the customer.
Matform’s domed labels are also preferred by customers who want a more flexible labelling solution.  They can be used on curved or semi-rigid surfaces and will recover more easily if scratched or dented.
Some end users have a preference for the tactile feel of a 3D label in addition to the cosmetic benefits.

What are the major benefits of domed labels?

The polyurethane dome also acts as protection for the label, giving weatherproofing and UV resistance.
Company logos become magnified under a polyurethane dome, bringing flat labels to life with a new eye-catching and tactile dimension.
