Young people are given a sporting chance thanks to Matform’s support
A local under 13s rugby squad is kicking off a new season with Matform as one of its sponsors.
The Bognor Bulldogs is a squad of around 30 boys and thanks to the sponsorship by Matform, along with six other companies, each player receives the full playing kit – t-shirt, shorts and socks – free of charge. All of the sponsors are featured on the t-shirts.
It was the 12-year-old son of Matform’s Finance Director Eleanor Billingham who suggested the company sponsor the Bognor Bulldogs, as he plays for the squad and discovered they needed sponsors for the new season.
Karl Flinn has been Head Coach of the Bognor Bulldogs for over three years and believes that support from the local business community is critical to the squad’s success.
“The boys that come along are from a variety of backgrounds. So having their kit supplied free of charge, thanks to the sponsors, means that this opportunity is available to children from all walks of life and it has a massive impact,” explained Karl.
“Being part of a sports team as a young person is so important; it helps them to achieve, to get active, and they learn life skills, discipline and right from wrong,” he said.
“The sponsorship makes this possible and takes the cost away from the parents. We also do our best to raise the profile of our sponsors whenever we can by getting them featured in the local press post-match reports as well as having ‘Matform’s man of the match’ for example,” added Karl.
The Bognor Bulldogs meet twice a week to train and the new season has now started, so the squad will travel across Sussex and Hampshire to play in the mini league in addition to friendly matches.
The new sponsors were officially thanked at a recent presentation event where the playing kit was presented to the squad members and sponsors were invited for a photo opportunity. The photos will be used in local press releases and on the team’s website.
